Mindreef Previews Web Services Diagnostics Technology at Meta Group and
DCI's The Summit on Web Services Conference

NuMega Founders Form New Company to Address Challenges of Isolating
Problems in Distributed Applications

BOSTON, MA - October 23, 2002 - Mindreef, LLC publicly introduced itself
today at the Meta Group and DCI Summit on Web Services. Mindreef, a
startup founded by Frank Grossman and Jim Moskun, the founders of NuMega
Technologies, has assembled a team of high-tech veterans with a record
of success in building debugging, profiling, automatic error detection
and distributed applications.

Mindreef is now applying that experience to the diagnosis of distributed
applications being built with Web services. Web services promise to
fulfill the vision of distributed applications, but the additional
complexity inherent in distributed applications is leading to problems
that standard debugging and performance tools are not designed to
handle. A new breed of comprehensive diagnostic tools is required that
focuses on the connections between loosely coupled components rather
than the code in the components. "When you have components running on
disparate systems spread across departmental or corporate boundaries,
even simple problems can be very difficult to isolate. We believe that
there is a need for deeper, more specialized tools than those provided
with Web Services toolkit or management offerings. Our experience at
NuMega gave us great insight in how to package hard-core diagnostic
technology in easy-to-use tools that are powerful enough for the
toughest development challenges, yet non-invasive for use in production
environments," said Jim Moskun, co-founder of Mindreef.

Addressing Emerging Web Services Diagnostics Category

Web Services Diagnostics systems collect information about SOAP
transactions and use the information to provide visibility and insight
into Web services communications through features such as logging,
debugging, reporting, profiling, analytics and collaboration. These
systems must meet key Web services requirements, including:

* Platform Neutral: Independent of operating system, language,
toolkit or transport.
* XML-Aware: Including SOAP, WSDL and Schema.
* Team Oriented: Multi-user visualization to track down and fix
problems.
* Non-Invasive: Operates in-between end points and doesn't require
modifying code.

Mindreef will be delivering its SOAPscope product family that meets
these requirements over the next quarter, enabling client application
developers, service developers, testers and support staff to quickly
isolate and solve problems at any point in an application's life cycle.
A beta release of Mindreef SOAPscope Personal Edition is available for
download at <http://www.mindreef.com> www.mindreef.com.

"Today, early adopter customers have to work with moving targets, as
toolkits and standards continue to evolve and mature. It is becoming
clear that there is a lack of Web Services Diagnostics solutions that
address the deep complexities of distributed applications. Mindreef has
the vision and team to make this happen," said Bob Zurek, Vice President
Advanced Technologies at Ascential Software Corporation, the leading
provider of enterprise data integration solutions.

About Mindreef

Mindreef was founded in 2001 by the original technology team from NuMega
Technologies, a software development tools provider for the Microsoft
and Java platforms, which was acquired by Compuware Corporation.
Mindreef is delivering the industry's first comprehensive Web Services
Diagnostics system, enabling application developers, service developers,
testers and support staff to address the problem-solving challenges of
distributed applications.
